Vicinity Companies is the acquisition arm of Vicinity Group Inc. Vicinity is an operating managed services company with teams from Honolulu to Anchorage to the Pacific Northwest, serving businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies in communities most vendors manage from a distance. We started buying companies for the same reason we started serving them: somebody close by ought to.
Vicinity was founded by people who kept watching the same thing happen: businesses in the places they call home, left behind by vendors who didn’t answer, didn’t understand, and didn’t much care what happened after the contract was signed. So they stepped closer and built the technology partner those communities deserved.
Along the way, we learned this industry from the owner’s chair. We built and run a managed services practice ourselves, and our CEO founded 3SG, a managed services company that grew fast and was acquired. He remembers what it feels like to sell something you built: which promises held, which didn’t, and what he wished the buyer had understood.
We also watched what happened to businesses like ours when the consolidation wave came through. Companies that spent twenty years earning a town’s trust got folded into platforms with a resale clock, and inside a few years the local number rang somewhere far away. Nobody involved was evil. The math just wasn’t built for the town.
Vicinity Companies exists to be the other kind of buyer. We buy to operate and to hold, we structure each deal (including its funding) around the company and the seller rather than a template, and we keep what made each company worth buying: the people, the name, the standards, and the community standing. When Vicinity acquired DanTech Services, an Anchorage MSP with two decades of history, all of that came with it, on purpose.
When your business joins Vicinity, it stays in the vicinity.
Preserve locally owned technology businesses by giving their owners a real way to exit: one that keeps the team employed, the clients cared for, and the company part of its community.
A future where a founder's retirement never costs a town its IT provider, employees their livelihoods, or clients the people who know them by name.
Three habits define every acquisition we make. We show our math: valuations arrive with the reasoning attached, and you’re encouraged to check it with your own advisors. We put the people terms in writing: employee offers, pay protection, and brand treatment go in the documents, not in the pitch. And we buy to hold: we acquire companies to operate them, not to resell them on a schedule, so resale pressure never reaches your team or your clients.
The people below run every acquisition personally. No deal team you’ll never see again, no handoff after signing.
